Pinecone Gnome Ornaments

To kick off the Christmas craftiness, I'm going to show you these adorable, rustic Pinecone Gnome Ornaments.

I found the idea in the Better Homes and Garden Special Interest Publication, Holiday Crafts. They were simple to make and added instant charm to my Christmas tree.

Supplies
 (to make 6 ornaments)
two sheets ivory felt
package of 1" round wood beads
package of 3/8" round wood balls
six 1 1/2 - 2 inch long pinecones
hot glue gun and glue sticks
ivory thread
sewing needle

Cut six triangles from felt measuring 3 3/4" inches on each side.

Fold each triangle in half and stitch together the long edge with a needle and thread. 

Open the folded triangle and fold up a cuff on the bottom to create a hat. 

Cut six 1/2 x 5 inch strips from felt for the scarves. Fringe the ends of each strip with scissors. 

Hot glue a 1 inch wooden ball onto the flattest end of each pinecone for gnome's head. 

I glued the outside of the bead opening first, then dropped hot glue into the bead to secure it to the pinecone. 

Hot glue the felt hats to the gnome heads. If your hats don't want to stand up nice or you want to bend them in different ways, you could glue chenille stems to the inside of the hats and the gnome heads. 

Hot glue a 3/8" wooden ball to each 1" ball for a nose. 

Wrap a scarf around each gnome's neck and secure with hot glue. 

Sew a short length of thread to the top of each hat for a hanging loop. 

And hang them on your tree!

The total cost for my 6 ornaments was $6.30
$0.50 for felt
$1.47 for 1" wood beads
$1.47 for 3/8" wood balls
$4 for package of pine cones

If you can find pine cones in your yard, it would only cost you $2.30!
