Our playroom makeover is coming along nicely, and I'm having so much fun coming up with unique art to complete the space! If you follow me on Instagram, you saw a sneak peak of today's project while I was speed shopping through a 3 story antique warehouse with a hungry 3 year old in tow! Yikes!
My sweet little shopping trooper and I were on a hunt for some old records I spotted last time we were in the store. The bright color labels on the records immediately caught my eye, and I thought they would be so fun to hang in a grouping on their wall! So today I'm sharing with you how I created a Record Wall in their playroom:
I picked up sixteen records from the antique store for about 50 cents each. I don't know if that was a rip off or a steal, but I thought $8 for a big art display wasn't a bad price! I tried to pick a few records in each color to add the most impact on the wall.
After gently cleaning the dust off the records, I laid them out on a table to visualize where I wanted each color to go. I decided to put them in a square with four rows of four records, but you could go crazy with the shape or color pattern of your records!
After contemplating how to best hang the records on the wall, I found this Scotch Permanent Mounting Tape at Hobby Lobby and thought it would be perfect!
You can find a similar mounting tape here: Scotch Permanent Double-Sided Clear Mounting Tape, 1" x 60"
I just cut 2" pieces of tape to use on the top and bottom of the records, peeled off the backing and stuck them on the wall! It couldn't be easier and I didn't have to make a single nail hole! I just love those kind of projects : )
I added the records to a little reading corner in the boy's playroom, and here is the space before:
and AFTER:
Don't those records look awesome up on the wall? All those circles just make me smile : )
So fun for a playroom!
My boys said, "What on Earth are those things on our wall? Are they like CDs?"
Oh, do they have a way of making me feel old!
I added a green rug and an old rocking chair to make their reading corner nice and cozy. I'd love to paint the bookcase and chair someday, but for now I added a pillow I made using extra fabric from their curtain valances.
The record wall was such an easy project and added a ton of personality to the space! I've got a few more projects up my sleeve before I'm ready to show you the room reveal, so stay tuned!
I'm sharing the coolest watercolor project I made with my boys at 52 Mantels on Friday, so make sure you head over there too! Have a wonderful day!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for partying at The DIY Dreamer.. From Dream To Reality! Can't wait to see what you link up tomorrow evening!! xoxo
FABULOUS idea, and one I would like to do on a LARGE SCALE because I have HUNDREDS of 45 RPM records. (Yes, I AM old, LOL!)
ReplyDeleteSo, my only concern is: I have some of that foam mounting tape, but wouldn't it take the paint--and maybe some of the finish on the sheet rock--with it if you ever took it down?
I don't envision TAKING it down myself, but the next owner of this house may not be as impressed with it as I am!
Any advice would be welcome!

Hi Jayni! I've read that using a hair dryer to heat the tape before removing helps to not damage the wall. I've also read Goo Gone can help remove the adhesive, but it is not recommended for use on flat paint. Worse case scenario, I'll have to use a little spackle and paint to cover any damaged areas, but it is totally worth it for how awesome the record wall turned out!
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by, and good luck with your own record wall!
What a great use for the records, and the colours really pop out against the wall, it looks great.
ReplyDeleteCute! I think record walls are a cool idea! I had a neighbor who was a DJ, and he had records totally covering the walls and the ceilings.

What a great idea for a family room -- and a "history" lesson too as my kids would say! Love how the eye follows the colors -- nice job! Thanks so much for sharing on Busy Monday!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! If you want to be able to take them down easily without damaging the paint, you could also use the Command velcro strips.
